Relief for the Emotionally Sensitive Person

Emotionally Sensitive Person

As promised in our previous article, today we will discuss four reasons why understanding emotion’s speed will give a new perspective and a relief to the emotionally sensitive person.  However, this understanding is not solely for them.  It behooves those who are less sensitive to understand as well in order to encourage good relationships and maintain current sound relationships.  To be the best friend, parent, sibling, boss, worker, and person, we must understand the speed of emotion.  So, let’s take a look at four reasons why this understanding is such a relief to the person who is emotionally sensitive.

First: They Have No Control

Emotionally sensitive people should not feel guilty for an automatic reaction over which they have no control.   Others should not hold them accountable for this first phase of emotional response, either.

Second: No Blame

The emotionally sensitive and reactive person should enjoy the sense of relief it brings to know they are not to blame.

Third: Everyone Has the Same Problem

They should also realize that the unsuccessful struggle they have had all their lives to stamp out these surges of emotion is because no one can.  It is simply the way our emotions are wired.

Fourth: There IS a Tool for Them

However, they should take seriously the fact that they must and can take a window of opportunity to do what is right in response to the situation.  After the message has been decoded by the cortex and they have processed the situation and understood how it is they should react, they can respond appropriately.  While speedy emotions sometimes choose the right reaction, sometimes our deliberate thinking must refine their decisions.

Next, we’ll take a deeper look into that “window of opportunity.”

Who Am I?

Our first and most important task in a world-changing mission is to learn how to think straight (and teach straight thinking) and combat the insurgence of crooked thinking in our culture and in our world today. If we become passive victims of this crooked way of thinking, we promote it. Furthermore, if we remain silent, we also give it credence. In Who Am I?the reader progresses from how we have become “crooked thinkers” to how to break out of this prison of the mind to become instruments of change for a better world.  We do this by recognizing from where we derive our value as humans. “Build a straight and powerful mind.” ~ Ray W. Lincoln
